NBC stations have new hiring initiatives

According to TV NewsCheck, NBC’s O&Os have just started two new programs aimed at recruiting new, diverse journalists.

The News Associates program focuses on finding recent graduates, and the Reporter Training program is designed to target journalists who may be working in print or online media.

Valari Staab, president of the NBC Owned Television Stations says the company is trying to improve its diversity record.

“We’re excited about developing and investing in young journalists from diverse backgrounds who we hope will one day be news room managers and great reporters at our stations across the country.”

Of course, the two programs will only accept 14 journalists total in this first round, but representatives from minority journalism organizations are applauding the efforts.
