The general public is often unaware of what goes into journalism and how news is gathered and disseminated as it is. To make ourselves as journalists a bit more vulnerable in this sense, by sharing through social media outlets, there is a way to establish a sense of rapport and bonds that would otherwise not exist. I think you can take it too far, but providing a fair and honest look into what reporters do, for society at large, should never be something we run from.

It's good to see that journalists are holding to verifying facts from social media sources before using them in their stories. The fact that 84% hold to traditional media over social media as being more "reliable" shows that reports are elevating truth as supreme. Reporters have to hold themselves accountable with everything they find, wherever that may be.That being said, social media sources are imperative and crucial to understanding this new generation and how it operates both in mind and spirit.

I am actually not convinced of this. It is easy to say you want better content but if you take away the day to day content that consumers take for granted (which excludes content and analysis), then I think you might find that people are going to be more grumpy than if you took away the "insight" that they think they want.

As a South African financial journalist I've used Twitter / Facebook etc to do personal brand building and to build my network with other financial sector players.

At the moment a grey area for a lot of our "market commentators" is that if they "Tweet" something the question is whether or not they "said" it...

I guess the usual caveat applies - don't post something you don't have the courage to write in professional circles.

I feel that I would fall with the other %50 that would consider paying to see "professionally produced video." The problem with this category is the limits that may come about. I mean what qualifications does a video journalist have to have in order to say they are professional. Overall couldn't informative, needed and might I say even wanted material can be considered both as professional and unprofessional. As a broadcast major I would feel that producing content would then create these guidelines that can effect what is being scene by the public. The problem is, finding whether it is change for the better good.
