Most and least trusted news sources

Given that almost half of our respondents described themselves as politically liberal, it’s perhaps no surprise that most of them cited Fox News as one of their least trusted news sources. More than half cited national newspapers like the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal as among their most trusted sources.

Other trusted sources cited by several of the people we spoke to included NPR, the BBC, national magazines like The Atlantic and National Geographic, and local print and TV news.

Cable news other than Fox got mixed reviews. No one named MSNBC as most trusted; two respondents said they trusted it least. And about half our sample cited CNN as either most or least trusted, the only news source with an equal number of supporters and opponents.
