Visual journalism by ProPublica

We recently shared a digital story from ProPublica that used a game to explore what it’s like to seek asylum in the United States. That’s just one of the outlet’s interactive, visual stories that drew attention over the past year. Now, ProPublica has highlighted some of its favorites and shared tools journalists can use in their own projects.

There’s the interactive database of 54 million Chicago traffic tickets that found a disproportionate impact on majority black sections of the city. There’s video of the levee ProPublica built to see how these barriers increase flooding. And there’s the story of heart transplant failures built around family Facebook posts and audio interviews.

The full list includes many more examples of interactive data, like ProPublica’s accounting of payments to Donald Trump business while he’s been in office, and visual stories, that include still photography, video, and even a full-length documentary. It’s worth your time.

Thanks to Poynter’s Friday news roundup for pointing it out.
